Mabel's One Year Old

My sweet baby turned a year old!

Stats: At Mabel's one year checkup, she weighed 19 pounds 9 ounces (45%) and was 29.5 inches tall (59%).  She's wearing 18 month clothes. [As a side note, Matilda's back on the growth chart at a whopping 29 pounds (6%) and 37 inches tall (5%).]

She now has two top teeth too, bringing the tooth count up to 4.

Sleep: No big changes to sleep this month.  (I'm a week and a half late writing this and the day she turned a year old, she started sleeping through the night more often than not.  Matilda can't wait until she's sleeping through the night consistently because she wants to share a room and we told her the prerequisite to room sharing is Mabel not waking up at night.)

Eat: We started cows milk a couple weeks before her first birthday.  She wasn't a huge fan at first, but she's starting to drink it more consistently.  She likes drinking out of sippy cups, but she was making a mess, and we've found she does much better with the kind that has straws as opposed to spouts.

She's down to nursing/ bottles 3x a day (each time she goes to sleep) and maybe once at night.  I'm only pumping once at work.  Honestly, given the trajectory she's on with solids and milk, she'll likely be weaned soon.

Solids wise, she loves pasta and broccoli, but is open to trying most anything.

Play/ Milestones: No walking yet, but still plenty of gross motor activities.  She loves slides and pushing around the tricycle or riding toy we got her for birthday.  Also, as you can see in the pictures above, she had her first splash pad experience and loved it.  Unlike Matilda, she doesn't mind getting her face wet.  She loves to play outside in the backyard lately too - digging in the sandbox, moving rocks around, etc.

I would say that the biggest difference this past month is that she's gotten much more demanding.  She's always been pretty chill, but she has definitely gotten more vocal (whines/ grunts/ throws a fit) when she wants or doesn't want something. No more words other than Mama, Dada, and dog (and maybe "hiiiiii"), but still is the best little waver around.  She's learned to make kissing noises too which is adorable.  Still loves to dance and clap too.

She's been really into a few of her toys this month too.  She likes the toy where you push the balls through and they hit the xylophone below.  She'll do that over and over.  Then she'll take the balls and put them in and out of her stacking cups.

This will be Mabel's last monthly update.  We'll try to do quarterly updates this next year (and hopefully plenty of other posts with both girls).

Mabel's Baptism

Mabel got baptized today.  We baptized Matilda when she turned a year too, since all of our family were already in town.  The only downfall to baptizing an older infant is how squirmy they are.  She did good during the baptism, but she got fussy during the church service (because we wouldn't let her eat my earing), so Jason had to go outside with her.

Poor Mabel was soooo tired when we got home.  I wasn't able to get a cute picture of her in her dress because she was just exhausted.

We woke her up from her nap to see her cousins out as they headed back home.

Birthday Party Weekend

This past weekend we celebrated the girls' 4th and 1st birthdays (along with Mabel's baptism, which I'll capture in another post).

Matilda requested a Frozen party, so that is what we she got.  No Pinterest worthy decorations this year, mostly just store bought decorations, but I still think it came out pretty cute. :)  No homemade cake this year either, but the H-E-B cake was cute.  We also had "krumcakes" like they eat in one of her Frozen stories, but they were actually just cannoli's.

We had about 60 guests.  (This was the first year she wanted to invite her classmates.  Usually we just invite our family and friends and their kids.)  A late spring cold front was blowing through, so we had to have most of the party indoors.  Good thing we had scheduled both indoor and outdoor activities.

After a lunch of chili cheese hotdogs, veggies, chips, and fruit, the kiddoes decorated snowflakes.  Some of them played outside and in Matilda's room before we cut the cake.

Matilda got a little shy during the Happy Birthday song and wanted to cuddle her sister which was really cute.

Once most of the guests left, we let the girls open their presents. Mabel had a few from family too.

As always, I think Matilda had about 6 wardrobe changes through the party (no joke).  She had a great time though!

After nap and quiet time for the kiddoes, we celebrated Mabel's birthday with family.

We made spaghetti, which Mabel thoroughly enjoyed.  She also hadn't had any cake, so we let her have a slice after singing happy birthday.

Let's just say, she went directly into the bath afterwards and got a good scrubbing. :)

I think both of the girls enjoyed their birthday celebrations.
