We went camping at Stephen F. Austin State Park over Labor Day weekend. We've only been camping with Matilda 1.5 times prior to the trip.
Once at the Renaissance Festival last year:
And then we tried to camp in February, but ended up leaving because it was too wet and cold:
This time it was definitely not cold. We had a storm come through the first day which made everything pretty muddy the entire weekend, and it was pretty hot too. Luckily, mosquitos weren't an issue, but there were lots of ants. But despite the heat and ants, we had a pretty good time.
Matilda loves being outside lately. Plus, one of Jason's running buddy's family joined us. Matilda loved playing with their two girls (age 7 and 10) and their dog. Jared came for the day on Saturday, and Jordan stayed the whole weekend too.
On Sunday, we hiked about a mile or so to the Brazos River that ran beside the park. We recently got a hiking carrier for Matilda, and she really likes it.
Everybody fished except Matilda and I who just watched.
Each of the three boys caught pretty good sized catfish. We were too tired to cook them that evening, but we fried them the next day and they were really good!
Overall, it was a really great quick trip away and I'm really glad that Matilda enjoys camping.
