In mid-October, we headed to the Texas Renaissance Festival. We showed up on Friday to set up our campsite and get settled in. It was quite a warm weekend, but we tried to make the best of it.
Matilda dressed in her new outfit (which yes, doubled as her Little Red Riding Hood outfit for Halloween). Jason got a new outfit too.
This year, she was very interested in the rides. She was also a bit scared of some of the more intense outfits. She also definitely disliked the jousting. We had to explain several times that it was all just pretend.

Jason's family (Nonna, KayKay, Jared, and Jordan) met us mid-day. They all went on the big swings together (even KayKay!)
On Sunday, we just did a quick jaunt through the park before heading back home.
She was plenty tired!
Weekend #2
We headed back last weekend. The weather was much better. There was a little rain shower after we finished setting up our campsite. And a beautiful double rainbow afterwards!
As much as we love all of our light backpacking gear, we've slowly been adapting to more family-friendly camping gear. We got a new fancy tarp as well as a kitchen table and bigger grill. Matilda loves playing kitchen with all of the gear.
Jason cooked spaghetti Friday evening and Matilda couldn't get enough of it.
We tried to take a picture before bed, but the flash got the best of us.
As far as logging Matilda around this year, we alternated between the big hiking backpack, the Ergo, and just making her walk.
The first weekend she had begged to go on the pony rides, so we made sure to fit it in the second weekend. She chose the llama - we were told it was the smoothest ride.
On both Saturdays, we grabbed a quick lunch before putting Matilda in the car and driving around backroads for her nap.
After nap, we headed back into the festival. We learned all about making fabric using old school machines.
And Matilda requested fish and chips for dinner.
Sunday we took it pretty easy. There weren't too many people in the festival, so Matilda just walked around herself. She went into so many stores to admire the goods, performed the alphabet on a stage, and jumped up and down watching the trampoline rides. Oh, and by the second weekend, she had got over her fear of people in full costumes. She even wanted to go up close to a few of them.
Overall, it was a great couple of weekends.
Here's a compilation of us for the past three years. :)
