Mabel's Second Month

Stats: She has her 2 month appointment next week, so we'll know her weight/ height then, but unofficially, she weighs 10.8 pounds according to the bathroom scale.  That's nearly what Matilda weighed when she was four months old!  She's already growing out of her three month clothes, so we'll be pulling out the six months clothes in the next few days.

Update: At her 2 month appointment, she weighed 11 pounds 6.6 ounces (47%), was 22.44 inches long (42%), and had a head circumference of 15 inches (37%).

The poor kid battled a few weeks of infant acne this month, but it is finally clearing.  She also lost some of her hair and has an old man's receding hairline.  Luckily, new hair is starting to grow back.  It still looks brown, so time will tell if she gets any blonder like Matilda (and like Jason and I when we were younger).  She's now getting some cradle cap.  Hopefully that will clear soon.

Sleep: She's mostly slept in her rock-n-play this month.  Her head hasn't really rounded out since birth (and I fear the rock-n-play is making it worse), so we're making a huge effort to keep her out of the rock-n-play during the day and we moved the crib into our room for nights.  (Doctor confirmed brachycephaly at her appointment.)

Her best naps during the day are either on me or when she's in her car seat when we're running errands.

Bedtime and waking up for the day vary, but we usually try to get her down right after we do Matilda's bedtime routine (so around 7:30-8 pm).  She's gotten a couple 7 hour stretches of sleep at night, but usually her longest stretches are about 5 hours.  That has shortened since we've moved her out of the rock-n-play into the crib, but hopefully it will work it's way back up soon.  Usually, she wakes twice at night for diaper changes/ feeds.

Eat: Nothing new to report in terms of breastfeeding.  She still has reflux and will throw up every few days.

The saddest news to report is that she won't take bottles anymore.  It's so frustrating because she took them for two weeks and then has refused them all month.  It's like she's completely forgotten how to suck them.  She's only taken it once this whole past month!  We're now going down the road of buying different bottles and nipples, but that doesn't seem to be helping.  So frustrating!

Play/ Milestones: She started smiling the day after her one month birthday.  At first, I was the only one getting her smiles, but now she's plenty smiley for Jason and Matilda too.  Usually, as soon as she focuses on a face, she's all smiles.

She's not a very vocal baby.  She usually gives you a warning vocalization when she's getting tired (before she gets cranky).  She's starting to coo more when she's happy, but not too much yet.

This month's Montessori mobile was the Octahedron mobile, and she has loved it.  She'll spend a good amount of time watching it.  I want to remove the black and white pictures from her movement mat and add a mirror soon.

Otherwise, she's pretty good at entertaining herself when she's awake by staring at random lights, windows, etc.  She's very patient with Matilda's overambitious hugs, pats, etc. and is starting to be more interactive with her.
