Tree Down

This picture was taken nearly a year ago.  Notice the tree on the left?

This tree?

Well, it's not there anymore.

A couple of weeks ago, our neighbor's dad informed us he was having the tree cut down.  He was afraid that during the next hurricane, it would end up through their roof.  Initially, we were opposed to the idea.  While we hated the leaves in the fall, we liked the shade it provided the rest of the year.  But, now that it's gone, we don't mind it nearly as much as we thought we would.  It actually substantially increased the visibility of our house from the road.  Previously, the low profile of our house made it kinda lost between the other houses.  Now, you actually notice it.

Also, I don't want to ruin the surprise, but in about a month there will be another big change to the front of the house.  Any guesses?

They cut down a tree??? And there was NO protest??? What about that GREEN thingie? I wonder how many green credits one would have to buy to offset the carbon dioxide this tree converted annually.

People at work commented that they must have purposely waited for a day I wasn't at home so I wouldn't go out and chain myself to the tree in protest.

Seriously? We had a couple pet turtles growing up. One went into hiberation before we could re-release it into the wild. It took months for it to emerge from under the newspapers.
